I guess I just don't get any benefits from it in the modern world - there's not much threat from the neighbours coming home drunk at 2am!Methuselahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09134860337125242027noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3163554012880183003.post-8288948664135263592009-06-05T16:58:12.404+01:002009-06-05T16:58:12.404+01:00Hmm - I drink gallons of coffee a day!
The only o...Hmm - I drink gallons of coffee a day!

The only other thing I can think of is reading prior to bed. Reading sends me off!

One other thing that I was discussing with a paleo-mate of mine is, "is it 'natural' to be spark out all night?" I mean, when deep in sleep we are extremely vulnerable, so perhaps short fits of sleep are actually the way we should sleep (unless we are not waking up refreshed)?Asclepiushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14604117979253596512noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3163554012880183003.post-28417935120336369582009-06-05T06:52:58.924+01:002009-06-05T06:52:58.924+01:00Bryce, Asclepius - the killer is that I have been ...Bryce, Asclepius - the killer is that I have been in bed by 10 and not needing to get up until 6 every night for a week. So the potential for 8 hours. But it's been more like 6 - 6.5. I don't drink coffee or booze during the week, I relax for the hour before sleep, I black out the windows. I think it's an overactive mind. Sometimes I am fine. Right now, too much going on. Last night I had a handful of nuts and a melatonin at 2.30 am and it still took 90 minutes to get back to sleep....Methuselahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09134860337125242027noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3163554012880183003.post-64834725466739840692009-06-04T21:40:34.900+01:002009-06-04T21:40:34.900+01:00I would put a lack of sleep high up on the list of...I would put a lack of sleep high up on the list of causes of weakness.

It isn't just the fatigue arising from disturbed sleep, nor the cumulative effect of a lack of sleep over consecutive days, but rather the disruption at the hormonal level arising from poor quality sleep.

In addition, poor sleep, in and of itself, can be stressful and makes us more sensitive to other stress-triggers. Stressed people sleep less, so yo ucan end up in a negative feedback cycle.

Anyway, its 2135hrs and I promised myslef an early night despite a need to practice the guitar/Lau Gar, a pile of good books to read and some interesting stuff on TV.

I know that in the morning the returns from 9.5 hours of sleep will far exceed those of ANYTHING else I could find to do this evening.

Hope you get a decent night's sleep tonight.

Night night!Asclepiushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14604117979253596512noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3163554012880183003.post-27778021485076013052009-06-04T20:06:32.024+01:002009-06-04T20:06:32.024+01:00Lack of sleep messed my most recent workout up too...Lack of sleep messed my most recent workout up too.
